Why You Should Start Using A Menstrual Cup

If you’ve read my ‘5 Sustainable Period Products‘ post, you’ll know I’m a fan of using a menstrual cup. For me, it’s completely transformed how I have a period and how I feel when I’m on my period. When talking to friends about menstrual cups, some seem to be grossed out. I think this is because when I first started using them, I was quite quick off the blocks. Now menstrual cups are more commonly talked about and available. If you’re yet to be convinced or are intrigued about switching to a cup, here’s why you should.

#1

The reason most people switch to using a menstrual cup – no more waste. They’re a great product for sustainable living. If you think about how many pads or tampons you use per period per year, that’s a lot of waste going to landfill.

#2

Cost – Yes, upfront menstrual cups may see little expensive. But that’s a one off cost. In the long run you’re going to be saving yourself a lot of money.

#3

12 hours between emptying! Yep, you can pop that thing in the morning go about your businesses carefree and empty it right before bed. This also means you can have a lie in instead of racing to the bathroom first thing in the morning. there’s no worrying about toxic shock or leaking.

#4

A cup only collects your period. Tampons absorb all the moisture in your vagina, this can lead to you feeling dry, uncomfortable and means you have to have multiple absorbency tampons depending on the heaviness of your flow.

#5

Go cord free – Not only is this liberating, it helps you forget you’re on you’re period, you can go swimming, you still feel sexy and its just more comfortable.

Switching to using a cup means I no longer worry about leaking. when I used pads and tampons, I was very anxious about leaking. I dreaded being on my period whilst I was at school because of this. I wish cups had been around when I was at school as I would’t have worried about having an accident.

If you’re even the slightest bit curious about trying a menstrual cup just give it a go. Get to know your body and help save the planet. I know it sounds dramatic, but honestly, it will change your life.
