The idea of navigating a foreign country by train can be a daunting prospect for some. However, it’s such an easy and affordable way of getting about and seeing a country. With flights out of the Uk to Bologna as low as £12 this is a trip that is great for those on a budget.
When planning your trip its important to look at flight times and train times. The trains are very regular but its still good to know what you’re working with.
Research each city and get a rough idea of the things you want to do there; this will determine how long you want to spend in each city. You don’t need a heavy structured plan, just a vague idea of what you want to do and where you want to spend your time. Having said this, be open to change, don’t miss out on seeing things because your following a plan you made prior to visiting. As I have said, the trains are very regular so you can afford to be flexible. Don’t book your train tickets in advance. You might get to Verona and decide you want to spend more time there than originally planned. Not booking your train tickets allows you the flexibility to do this.
Of course the cost of flights differs depending on when you fly and where you fly from.
UK > Bologna £23 Flight
Bologna > Verona £9.23 Train
Verona > Milan £11.42 Train
Milan > UK £20 Flight
Again, accomodation cost differs dramaticaly depending whether it’s a hostel, B&B or hotel. Cost also differs depending when you go. But it’s easy to do a night in each city at £25 a night.
